Network Operations Support System (OSS) Architect

The role: Network Operations Support System (OSS) Architect

Network OSS Architects provide architectural and design roadmaps to ensure continued enhancement of OSS features in the Google production network. Google network operates at massive scale while providing reliable service to Internet users throughout the world. The scale of Google's network infrastructure generates interesting set of operational support systems challenges which need to be solved by an evolving set of sophisticated systems and tools. Such tools require innovation in network management architecture in every segment of the seven OSI networking layers - from transport to application stacks. You will be faced with development of network systems architecture and design specifications for such functions as surveillance, fault and configuration management, performance analysis management, and operations analytics and reporting at a large scale in support of Google’s services.

Responsibilities:

• Research, identify, evaluate, and recommend network OSS architecture within the framework of the operating environment of Google’s global network.
• Work with team members within Network Operations group to develop a comprehensive set of network OSS requirements to support emerging network technologies in support of Google service offering.
• Identify, research, evaluate and recommend the selection of network OSS and related tools for deployment within Google’s network.
• Support and lead implementation of network OSS within Google's network infrastructure.

Requirements:

• BA or BS in EE/CS or equivalent experience with a strong software engineering discipline. M.S./Ph.D. degree a plus.
• At least 10 years of experience in network OSS architecture, design, software engineering, and implementation roles in a large scale network service provider, OSS technology supplier, or in a network management system supplier.
• In-depth knowledge and operational experience with large scale network OSS in content and network service provider environments.
• Substantial operational experience in requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation.
• Excellent knowledge of existing industry standards, technologies, and operational norms for network OSS in IEEE and ITU - with a focus on optical and IP routing layer network technologies.
• Excellent knowledge of requirements on the network OSS for the OSI layers applicable to optical transport and routing networks.
• Strong English-language written and oral communications skills with the ability to influence others with your stellar network OSS solutions.
