Caroline Wozniacki Will Officially Continue Her Comeback at the 2024 Australian Open

Caroline Wozniacki’s comeback is set to continue in January. The Australian Open announced on Dec. 6 that the Danish professional tennis player, who won the tournament in 2018, has earned one of the eight wildcard spots in the tournament’s draw.

The 33-year-old is currently embarking on a comeback tour following a three-year retirement from professional tennis. She left the sport in 2020, without a stated intention to return. But, after a handful of years and the birth of her two children, the athlete announced in June that she would return to the game.

She proceeded to play several professional tournaments, and closed out her returning season with an impressive run in the US Open, falling to eventual champion Coco Gauff in the Round of 16.

But she’s not done yet. In a self-penned Vogue piece published in June, Wozniacki stated her intention to return. “How long will I be able to play at my highest level—a year, two years, three years? I don’t know,” she said. “I’m not going to make any bold predictions—but if I didn’t believe in myself, I wouldn’t be doing this: I’m too competitive to just show up and not feel like I’m going to be one of the best players out there.”

She also said that playing the 2024 Australian Open was on her list of goals, so she can officially check it off.
