Ohio spiderwort is a very attractive plant and relished by bumblebees. Despite the off-putting, slimy mucus they contain (it disappears during cooking), the leaves and stems are edible, moreso when young and tender. In formal situations, this plant can be fairly aggressive as it produces an abundance of viable seed. Cutting the plant back considerably before the seed has set will prevent it from spreading too much and promote a second period of blooming in late summer or fall.
