The UK-based noise-grunge duo Comanechi named themselves after Olympian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, which might explain why extroverted drummer/singer Akiko Matsuura wore nothing but a fringed pink bodysuit and tiny vest for her extremely loud band’s third NXNE gig.
While silent partner Simon Petrovitch churned out sludge and feedback from his Marshall cab and hid behind his hair, Matsuura worked the crowd into a frenzy with her vicious drumming, screeched vocals and songs with titles like Naked and My Pussy (apparently about her childhood cat).
Bold, raw, refreshing and hilarious.
