Suppose you were given a dress...a little black dress, to be exact...and someone asked you to wear it for 365 days. What would you think? Blah? Let's sweeten the pot and say it's for a good cause... Could you do it?
Well, that's exactly what Sheena Matheiken did. She wore a little black dress for 365 days and dressed it up like you wouldn't believe as an exercise in sustainable fashion! Her innate creative style took over, and she came up with a different look for each of the 365 days.
Sheena created the Uniform Project to document her efforts and to raise funds for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots non-profit founded in 1990 to bring improved education to children living in the slums of India. As of June 14, the Uniform Project raised $95,298, sending 264 kids to school.

Wow, that's crazy. I would go nuts wearing the same thing every day for a year! That's certainly a great project though.

There was a similar project done in 2005 called the Little Brown Dress Project This girl didn't raise money, but the purpose was the same. She only had one dress as opposed to 7. Both projects are very interesting, although I think the Uniform project is more fashion forward.

Loved the Uniform Project video. Just when I'm getting back to sewing I see that I could survive one year wearing the same garment! Can't wait to hear the chat.

I so admire Sheena and all those who originated The Uniform Project and worked to carry it out throughout an entire year. I recently read an article on the project and was so impressed. In addition to their obvious fundraising skills, Sheena's and Tara's designing skills are second to none. :o)
