Product description

Delonix regia, also known as Flamboyant, is a tropical tree originating in Madagascar. It is an evergreen tree (if kept frost-free). The leaves resemble Albizia - opening at dawn and closing at dusk. The flowers can appear late in Spring and during Summer and are orange to red. The outside of the petals are green and the inside red. The upper petal is white or yellow in colour set with red dots. The flowers have red stamens with yellow/brown anthers and are pollinated by insects and butterflies.

Delonix regia can reach a height of 15 metres in its natural habitat. Flamboyant can also be used as a container plant and can even be pruned to keep it in a preferred size. This exotic plant prefers a warm, sunny spot in well drained soil. During the growth season, it will need regular watering and fertilisation. During winter, you can provide a lot less water - in fact, make sure the tree is not 'swimming'. When this tree is kept around 10 degrees Celsius or colder, it will lose its leaves - but they will regrow in Spring.
