The 2022 Ford F-150 has embraced technology like no other full-size truck. It is the only pickup in its class that’s available with a choice of V6 and V8 gas engines, a hybrid powertrain, and a forthcoming all-electric model. Its trim-level lineup ranges from a basic work truck to ultra-lux cruisers. And yet with that amount of variations and such a wide spectrum of tech and features, this truck does not make compromises.

This is a pickup that tops the full-size segment when it comes to towing and payload capacity. Its most powerful powertrains boast excellent fuel economy. And year after year, Ford makes updates that keep it at the top of the segment. So, for the eighth year in a row, Kelley Blue Book has named the Ford F-150 the Best Buy Award winner in the full-size truck category.

Brawn and Brains

The Ford F-150 does not introduce tech as a gimmick. Quite the opposite, in fact — Ford uses the technology in the 2022 F-150 to make it easier to get more work done on the job, all while netting better fuel economy, more power, and more capability. The engine that gives the F-150 the most towing capacity is a twin-turbo V6, an idea that was met with significant skepticism when Ford first announced it years ago.

Now there two EcoBoost twin-turbo engines, but the high-output version of the 3.5-liter is what powers the Baja-bred high-performance Ford Raptor. While the EcoBoost engines have impressive fuel economy, you can go a step further and get the hybrid model. Not only does the hybrid have 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque (that’s more power than in the Raptor), but it can tow 12,400 pounds and has a range of up to 765 miles.

While Ford’s Pro Power Onboard mobile generator system is available with three of the F-150’s gas engines, its capability is even greater with the hybrid. There, you can power multiple heavy-duty tools on the construction site, all at the same time. And with any F-150 that has Pro Power Onboard, you can monitor the generator’s power through the center screen in the cab.

Work Made Easier

Not only does the F-150 make it easier to power tools while you’re on the job, but it makes it easier to tow as well. There is an available system that eases the stress of lining your truck up to the trailer when you want to hook it up. The Ford’s blind-spot monitoring system also accounts for any vehicles that are on either side of the trailer. Pro Trailer Backup Assist lets you turn a knob and follow the guidance on the center screen in the cab so you can easily back up your truck and trailer. The optional Smart Hitch measures tongue weight and suggests proper weight distribution. Ford even offers an onboard scale so you can make sure you don’t carry too much payload.

And let’s not forget the built-in tailgate step that you can use to effortlessly climb into and out of the bed. In addition, in the cab, you can turn the center console into an available Work Surface, a convenient spot to set up your laptop or tablet.

Safety

Blind-spot monitoring and the Pro Trailer Backup Assist are only a small part of the suite of safety features the F-150 has to offer. Ford’s Co-Pilot360 adds more driver assistance and advanced safety features, including pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, blind-spot warning, and a lane-keeping system. Other features include a reverse sensing system, reverse brake assist, adaptive cruise control, and intersection assist. This will help prevent you from turning left into an oncoming vehicle. Starting in early 2022, BlueCruise, Ford’s hands-free driving system, will be another available option.

Luxury Livery is Available

The 2022 Ford F-150 can be as luxurious as you want it to be. This pickup has a smooth, comfortable ride and cushy seats, making long drives a breeze. The truck’s interior is spacious and quiet, even in the rear middle seat, thanks to the flat floor. And uplevel features include heated and cooled leather seats, premium audio, wireless smartphone charging, and much more. Then there are the massaging seats, which you control through the SYNC infotainment screen. And for the ultimate in rest and relaxation during break time, the available Max Recline seats fold nearly flat. It’s like flying business class.

Value

The Ford F-150 is built with so many cab, engine, bed, axle, and trim level combinations that you would be hard-pressed to find one that didn’t work for your needs. It’s available with four gas engines, a hybrid powertrain, and an upcoming all-electric model. There’s even a V8-powered Raptor R on the horizon, for the ultimate high-performance sand racer. All of the engines in the line are easy to recommend, with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost serving as a terrific midrange choice.

The 2022 Ford F-150’s value can be seen in its capability up and down the line. Excellent towing and payload capacity. Smart work solutions. Easy-to-use tech. And a comfortable cabin that’s a welcome sight after a long day of work. Whether you want a full-size truck for the job, for the daily drive, or for weekends with the family, the 2022 Ford F-150 is ready.
