We're in the middle of one of the most contentious election cycles in modern American history. It seems like everyone has picked a side and is sticking to it. In addition to organizers and everyday constituents, celebrities have also been vocal about which side of the aisle they align with. They posted to social media, performed at rallies, and encouraged Americans to vote in creative ways.

But for some celebrities, their connection with politics is extremely close having civic leaders as family members. Yes, some celebrities famously go into politics like Ronald Reagan, but others have family members who have no affiliation with Hollywood.

Below, check out the celebrities who have family members in politics.

Patrick Schwarzenegger

It's all in that famous last name. Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger is the son of former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist Maria Shriver, whose family is a part of the Kennedy dynasty. Patrick has been very vocal about the importance of voting and counting everyone's vote this election season.

Proud of her mother, Robin posted on Instagram about her seven-term career in the midwest state.

Amy Schumer

Comedian Amy Schumer and Senator Chuck Schumer are related. As Refinery 29 notes, Chuck is the first cousin of Amy Schumer's father, therefore they're cousins. Over the years, Amy has supported her cousin at major events, particularly for causes she's passionate about. She has a lot to be proud of as Senator Schumer is the first New Yorker and first person of Jewish descent to hold the position of Senate minority leader.

Stephen Colbert

The late-night show host isn't the only one in his family who can hold a conversation about politics. Stephen Colbert's sister Elizabeth Colbert Busch was a candidate for the 2013 special election for South Carolina's 1st congressional district. The Democratic hopeful, who had been interested in politics since she was a child, lost to Mark Sanford. She's now a South Carolina-based economist.

Jenna Bush Hager

Many Americans know Jenna Bush from her days in the White House with her sister Barbara in the early 2000s. But the television host and author has made a name for herself outside of her very famous political family. Jenna's father George W. Bush was the 43rd president, her grandfather George H. W. Bush was the 41st president, and her uncle Jeb Bush was the 43rd governor of Florida.

Meghan McCain

It's no secret that Meghan McCain is the daughter of the late Arizona Senator John McCain. The View co-host has always been vocal about her father's legacy and influence on her political views. More so than political positions, the McCain family has been involved in armed services through generations with Meghan's grandfather John S. McCain Jr. serving as a United States Navy admiral.

Kate Upton

Sports Illustrated model Kate Upton's uncle has been in politics before she was even born. Rep. Fred Upton, who's currently running for reelection in Michigan's 6th congressional district, has held that position for 30 years. The Republican shared that the Upton family has always been close and are "proud of Kate" for all her achievements.

Karlie Kloss

By marriage doesn't necessarily mean "family" but model Karlie Kloss is the sister-in-law of Jared Kushner. As one of the most controversial people in President Trump's circle, Jared and his wife Ivanka Trump have been working with 45th since the beginning of his presidential run — despite not having official titles. While Karlie has shied away from talking about her affiliation by marriage, there's always that famous Project Runway episode

Larry David

This one is a bit mind-blowing. Comedian and Seinfeld creator Larry David has many a time impersonated Senator Bernie Sanders on Saturday Night Live, but funnily enough, the two are actually relatives. In 2017, they both found out that they're related through PBS' Find Your Root show with Henry Louis Gates Jr — and were totally delighted by the news. We thought the resemblance was too close to not be familiar.
