For the first time since 2019, Boston will host a Pride Month celebration this summer that features a parade and festival. The 2020 and 2021 Pride Parade and Festival, which were organized by Boston Pride, were canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. Then in July 2021, the Boston Pride organization was dissolved following disagreements over issues about race, transgender inclusion and fundraising efforts. In the absence of an organized group to manage the events, no parade was held in 2022. This year's parade and festival will take place on Jun. 10, on Boston Common and at City Hall Plaza. It will be led by a new organization, Boston Pride For The People. "The last time we came together, there was a different president, a different governor, a different mayor. The pandemic kept us apart for a long time. Now, all of us are eager to reconnect, embrace each other as a community, and most importantly, have fun," said Adrianna Boulin, president of BP4TP and director of community impact and engagement at Fenway Health. In their announcement, BP4TP said the group worked over the past year to produce events that include "a broad chorus of voices." The organization is now asking for volunteers and financial support to make their plans a reality. Their goal is to raise $750,000. "Our intent this year is to center the people of the community, in the parade and at the festival. We are hoping to secure sponsorships to cover the majority of the cost of the events, in order to minimize the cost of registration for community groups and small businesses (particularly LGBTQ+ and Black-owned businesses) to participate," said Gary Daffin, BP4TP board member and executive director of the Multicultural AIDS Coalition.
