A Texas man has been arrested on federal child pornography charges after officials say they discovered a colossal cache of hard drives containing explicit material.
At 6.30am on Tuesday, officers from the Collin County’s Sheriff’s Office and the Plano Police Department executed a search warrant at the home on 39-year-old Richard Belden in the 1400 block of West McDermott in Allen.
The search of the residence, where Belden lives with his wife, yielded multiple electronic devices containing 58 Terabytes of data related to child pornography, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Most average hard drives being manufactured today contain one to three Terabytes of data.
Officials have not disclosed the format of the sexually explicit material discovered in Belden’s possession, but 58 Terabytes of memory could be used to store a whopping 7.5million digital photographs.
Fifty-eight Terabytes also could fit up 29,000 hours of video, according to the tech blog LifeWire. It would take 3.3 years to watch all of that footage back-to-back 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Belden has been charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of possession with the intention to promote child pornography.
The suspect was being held on Thursday at the Collin County Detention Facility on bond totaling $2.7million.
